As an independent celebrant, I’ll help you plan the perfect ceremony for you, and I am very glad that the law now allows for everyone to marry, regardless of gender!
I am often asked to officiate at Jewish ,or mixed-faith weddings where one person has Jewish background or affiliation. It’s a great pleasure to work with interfaith couples to create a ceremony which acknowledges your heritage and weaves different traditions together.
Not looking for a marriage celebrant? I am also available for baby-namings, renewal of vows, and funerals.
Please contact me for further details.
It’s important to have the right celebrant for the occasion, and so I am happy to meet you at no obligation, so we can find out if I am the celebrant you wish to use.
Things you need to know before getting married
There is a really good guide on the Department of Internal Affairs website www.dia.govt.nz which gives you all the legal requirements you need. I don’t think I can improve on their information, but I will happily interpret anything which may not be clear. The most important things are that you obtain a licence to be married before the actual ceremony takes place, and that you have a venue sorted out in plenty of time.
My role in your wedding is to help you create a ceremony which is meaningful for you, and to officiate at the ceremony on your wedding day. I don’t pretend to be a wedding planner, but if you have not sorted out a venue there are some which I could recommend.
My personal style is informal. I believe that your wedding should be enormous fun, as it’s arguably the most important function you will ever attend! I do not do solemnity, but I assure you I can help you create a ceremony which will incorporate all the elements you want to include.
Wedding ceremonies are in fact surprisingly short. The elements which are required are for me to state the intention of the gathering, to ask you if you still commit to this, for you to make a promise or vow to one another, and for me to make the official pronouncement that you are, in fact, legally married.
Basic fee: $425
Based on meetings, phone calls, research, putting the ceremony together, and appearing on the correct day.
Finding the right celebrant is very important. That’s why I don’t charge a deposit, and it’s why our first meeting does not oblige you to engage me if you don’t feel we “fit”. If we do click, here is what I offer, and what my fee includes:
- Face-to-face meetings (usually 2, more if necessary)
- As-needed availability by phone, skype or email as often as you need
- Resource materials
- Drafting the ceremony for you to approve
- Attendance at rehearsal
- Arriving for your ceremony at least half an hour beforehand
- Conducting the ceremony
- Providing you with a copy of your wedding ceremony
- Lodging the marriage licence with the Registrar
Other charges (occasional):
I am Wellington-based but happy to travel outside the region, and have celebrated weddings on Waiheke Island, in Napier, and various part of the Wairarapa. Travel costs are additional to my fee.
On occasion, some weddings take considerably more time to plan. If I think that I have exceeded my fairly generous time allowance in planning your ceremony, I will advise you well beforehand and negotiate a small additional fee. I have not come across any other hidden costs to date! Payment is normally made following the ceremony, by direct credit to my bank account (details available on request).
Please contact me to discuss your ceremony further. I look forward to working with you!
Looking for a photographer?
I don’t have any arrangement with any particular wedding photographer, but I can recommend Photography by Woolf as highly professional and innovative people to work with.
